As part of the exhibition ‘Chile: the dictatorship in cartoons’ in Galerie Bièvre, organised by the Town Hall of the 13ᵉ arrondissement of Paris in partnership with the Chilean Embassy in France from 18 to 28 March, Cartooning for Peace is taking part in the round-table discussion ‘Cartoons: a weapon of resistance against dictatorship’ and, as every year, in the presentation of the Presse Citron Trophy/BnF.

“Cartoons: a weapon of resistance against dictatorship”

Thursday 20 March at 7pm, Mairie du 13e, Antichambre (2nd floor)

Dictators have always been afraid of press cartoonists and the formidable weapon of their pencils, which expose their weaknesses and denounce their failings to the point of weakening them. That’s why cartoonists have always been a priority target for autocrats of all stripes, who have no hesitation in persecuting them when they don’t succeed in eliminating them…

With cartoonists Guillo (Chile), Wimar (Cuba) & Jam (Iran)

Round table discussion moderated by Vladimir Vazak, Arte’s senior reporter

Presse Citron Trophy/BnF

27 March, 7pm, at the 13th arrondissement town hall

To coincide with Press and Media Week, the Estienne School, in partnership with BnF, the Dessinez Créez Liberté association and the Mairie du 13e arrondissement, is organising the latest edition of the Trophée Presse Citron/BnF. This double competition, open to students and professional cartoonists, aims to support and develop press cartoons and freedom of expression.
